| Where did you learn to draw and paint? | ||||||||
It all started at Gardena High School where I won a few contests for Department of Water, Los Angeles Dodgers, and PTA. I developed my style amongst alot of great artist: my main influences were Tork, Odyessy, Ekew, Ives, Rhythm, Marvel,Slesk, Kulcha, Sinch, Solex, DeLok, Aint112, Ashun, Klear, KBC,FX, DE, SCI and all of the artist at the Belmont Yards in Downtown Los Angeles, Motor Yards and Seventh and Santa Fe. After high school I ended up at El Camino College where I developed more of the traditional approach to Illustration. Willie Suzuki and Kobashi were great instructors. I transferred over to Cal State Long Beach where I met up with Craola, Zoer, and Bonus. They helped me develop my style even further. During this time I worked with Public Picture Works-an organization put together by John Rier. It gave artists such as myself an opportunity to learn and develop as artists. We did murals for all kinds of places and big events. One of my favorite projects was the Nike Billboard project which put our designs on about 75 different locations througout the greater Los Angeles for a year. I worked with the legendary graffiti artists Cre8, Remote, and Angel. After, graduating with a four year degree at CSULB, I ended up going to Santa Monica College's Academy of Arts and Entertainment. Over there I learned the basics of storyboarding, drawing for animation, computer graphics, and animation. I was hired by my teacher Tony Grillo at www.flinch.com.-- where I worked on Adam Sandler's first webtoon called "The Peeper" for Warner Bros. This cartoon was ground breaking because it introduced the world to what can be done with Macromedia's Flash program. There was over a million viewings in the first couple of weeks. From there the Web cartoon industry took off. There were many sites in the late nineties that showcased web animation. During that time I worked on projects for Tim Burton, Warner Brothers, and Disney. I even developed some of my own shows. However, the party ended abruptly as the stock market began to pull back from investing in the new web entertainment companies. I found a job as a graphic designer/illustrator to where I am currently working today. |
